High Calcium Smoothie

Use this smoothie as your template and as a way to get added calcium into your diet.

If you are a diabetic or are on a low carb diet, you may not want to use bananas as your fruit. Remember, your lifestyle, your choice. Use any other low oxalate fruit(s) you like. I choose bananas because the kefir is tart and the bananas really sweeten it up.

I also like a lot of ice as it makes for a thick smoothie. If you don’t, use less!

I’m lactose intolerant and use Trader Joe’s non-fat, plain, kefir or Lifeway plain, non-fat, kefir. Both taste great and this smoothie never bothers my stomach. You can use any brand you have available but look for the higher calcium option.

If you don’t do dairy, use a non-dairy, high calcium fluid.

I thought bananas were a no no, that is what I was told by a nutritionist years ago. What can I eat for breakfast? Thank you for all of your information. You are awesome!

      Hi Katherine,
Make sure you read the articles on oxalate on this site. Will clear everything up for you. Bananas are perfectly fine. Most fruits are! Here is the safe oxalate list: https://kidneystonediet.com/good-oxalate-list/
      Thanks for writing!

    Jill,
I may have missed Kretschimer Wheat Germ listed in the Oxalate Food Guide.
A serving is 2 Tbsp. I believe it will be the oxalate will be low. Could you verify?

      Hi Mary,
You can undoubtedly have most foods, I take away spinach and almonds but say everything else in appropriate portions and get your calcium each day. Watch this from my YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fM4hO4dA9s

Thank you for the excellent article and for your help with our stone problems. My only concern with the shake is the nutritional analysis and the amount of “fat”, since bananas are not a source of fat, and neither should “non-fat” kefir be any source of fat. Where does the 5 grams of fat come from?

      Hi Debbie,
Not sure to tell you the truth. The nutrition calculator must have had an off day! A banana typically only has around .4 grams of fat and the kefir has none. So there you go. Thanks for the catch.

      Hi Mary,
It is in the dairy section typically around the yogurt.

“The group calls will transform you physically and emotionally. Once you start this journey, your health naturally improves. I have lost a total of 40 pounds and have consistently kept it off. The group calls are such support; this is more like family than a zoom meeting to stay accountable. Jill is far more than a nurse; she is a life coach. Her platform is invaluable.”

Jerry T. | Meal Plan Subscriber

“She gives very practical information, and it WORKS. I was totally overwhelmed at first. I got very poor diet information from my doctors. Jill made it easy for me to understand, and I took it one day at a time. I still watch her videos when I need a tune-up. Jill is the best, and she really cares about all of us. Take the course—it will help you!!!”
