Change Is Hard. Here’s How To Do It.

Today’s letter is specifically for working women raising children while still managing most household tasks.

Incorporating healthy food and fitness into your daily schedule is nearly impossible.

“Jill, you are supposed to motivate me. Why would you say such a thing?”

Because it’s true.

I work with lots of both retirees and working women. The retired woman always says, “This is so much easier now that I am not working.”

Whether you have children or not, working full-time and eating healthy (especially if you travel for your job) is incredibly hard. I try to remind us of this often because it is hard and you’ll want to give up if you’re surprised by the challenge.

I understand it’s hard when I ask you to meal plan.
I understand it’s hard when I ask you to eat less salt.
I understand it’s hard when I ask you to eat less added sugar.
I understand it’s hard when I ask you to move more.
I understand it’s hard when I ask you to drink more water.
I understand it’s hard when I ask you to eat more fruits and veggies.

I do. It’s hard, and not acknowledging that would be awful for you.

Changing your lifestyle is challenging, but you can manage your expectations when you understand this up front.

The diet industry will trick you into thinking that change is quick and easy. That is a bold lie to get you to buy whatever they’re selling. Don’t fall for it.

I warn you about the work ahead because I don’t want you to be surprised and give up—or, even worse, blame yourself.

If eating healthy and moving more were so easy, nobody would be overweight and managing a bunch of chronic health conditions with meds that can be managed with lifestyle choices.

So now what?

Start slowly and start with nutrition. Add one fruit and one veggie to your week until you’re eating more of them than you are now. Start with one more glass of water this week and gradually increase that week to week until you reach your goal.

Take a walk or move more in your house if it’s too cold outside where you live.

Focus on getting more sleep.

Focus on managing your stress better so you can get that sleep.

Pick one thing to focus on until you get the hang of that, and then move to the next. It’s too hard to make drastic changes in one week, and THAT IS OK. Slow and steady wins this race.

Mostly, I am asking that you be kind and loving to yourself. Tell yourself that what you’re embarking on is difficult, but you have overcome difficult situations before, and today is no different. YOU CAN MAKE CHANGE! You’re already Wonder Woman, you just need to direct your energies toward you and not everything and everyone else.

Let’s change that this year. A little bit makes a big difference!

Your friend and biggest advocate,
Jill

During the pandemic I started walking on my driveway, up and down and around to the back yard. Over and over. I was sure the neighbors would stare but they didn’t. It was what I felt comfortable doing. My mother-in-law told me she “got her steps in” inside her house so I thought why not the driveway? I took my phone and counted my steps. We have a treadmill but it was actually great to get outside. I go on longer walks now but if I’m stressed or need fresh air, my “driveway walks” are still an option. They remind me of when I was first diagnosed with stones in 2020 and the progress I’ve made. They are quick and as a friend always says in response to exercise “something is better than nothing!”

“The Kidney Stone Diet is far more than just a diet; this plan is life-altering!”

“The group calls will transform you physically and emotionally. Once you start this journey, your health naturally improves. I have lost a total of 40 pounds and have consistently kept it off. The group calls are such support; this is more like family than a zoom meeting to stay accountable. Jill is far more than a nurse; she is a life coach. Her platform is invaluable.”

Kim J. | Kidney Stone Prevention Course

“The best decision I’ve made has been to join this group.”

“I have been working on weight loss for many years. This group has kept me on track and has helped my continued success with my weight loss.”

Kate L. | Group Calls with Jill

“I have been following the Meal Plan for about 6 weeks and I feel amazing.”

“Eating healthy has also encouraged me to go to bed earlier, so I am also getting more sleep. Because of that, I have been able to get up before work and exercise! So yes, the positive effects are spilling over into all areas of a healthy lifestyle.”

Jerry T. | Meal Plan Subscriber

“I have been a part of the group calls with Jill for the last 14 months, and they are essential to being so successful with the Kidney Stone Diet Prevention Plan.”

Sarah B. | Group Calls with Jill

“These calls are the gold of this program!!”

“I can’t say enough about how Jill knows just the right questions to ask us or how she prods us to think about what is going on in our lives.”

Monica K. | Group Calls with Jill

“I took the course with Jill, and my second 24 hour urine was MUCH better than the first.”

“She gives very practical information, and it WORKS. I was totally overwhelmed at first. I got very poor diet information from my doctors. Jill made it easy for me to understand, and I took it one day at a time. I still watch her videos when I need a tune-up. Jill is the best, and she really cares about all of us. Take the course—it will help you!!!”
